An award

The very lovely Booklogged at A Reader's Journal listed me among her newly discovered blogs, recently, and gave me this award:

Truthfully, I'm not a great one for blog awards as I really dislike having to choose 'favourites' from my blog roll; anyone who is on my blog roll is a 'favourite' or they wouldn't be there. I feel it's hurtful to those not chosen for the awards and I don't believe book blogging should be about who's popular and who isn't; it should be about nice people and good books. That said, this is not that kind of award. You just have to list a few new blogs that you've recently discovered, so that's fine and dandy and I'm happy to do that.

Here are the rules of the "One Lovely Blog Award":

Accept the award, post it on your blog together with the name of the person who has granted the award, and his or her blog link. Pass the award to 15 other blogs that you’ve newly discovered. Remember to contact the bloggers to let them know they have been chosen for this award.

I don't think I can do 15 but here are a few blogs I've recently discovered and like.

Book Psmith
Caitlin at Chaotic Compendiums
Diane at Bibliophile by the sea
Geranium Cat
Paperback Reader
Sharry at xalwaysdreamx
Bookpusher at The Genteel Arsenal
Verity at Verity's Virago Venture

See, now I'm worrying that I've forgotten someone... and knowing my middle-aged, addled brain, I probably have.

Anyway, thank you to Booklogged for this award, if you've never visited her lovely blog then you really should... she's just started a state by state list of bloggers and is currently on West Virginia, a state I've visited a couple of times and absolutely love.

I find it very difficult too!

But I like to find new blogs - I haven't found some of these - thank you for the links.

Thanks Cath, that was very thoughtful and appreciated.

I chuckled when I read what you said about your "middle-aged addled brain"...LOL I am exactly your age, so I can relate to that comment...LOL

Paperback Reader: Thank you!

BooksPlease: I'm glad it's not just me. Hope you find a few new blogs to read amongst these.

I've followed you on Twitter, btw, in case you're wondering who 'Caffyolay' is. :-)

Diane: It's quite scary how quickly your brain seems to deteriorate when you hit 50. I feel like such a fool sometimes. Glad I'm not alone. :-)

Book Psmith: it seems we're nothing if not contrary because I know exactly what you mean. And thank you for your kind words.

Kailana: thank you!

Deslily: It's really nice to be thought of in awards but I just can't pick favourites. Especially as I often like different blogs for different reasons.

The photo is of the Seneca Rocks Nat. Recreation area in West Virginia. We passed through there on our way from The Shenandoah Skyline Drive to our friends in Pittsburgh, in June 2006. They have a beautiful visitors' centre and this ridge was right beside it. Stunning.

Verity: my pleasure. :-)

Pat: so far we've made it to a few eastern states such as New York state, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, NC. Then over to Tennessee and Kentucky and up to Ohio. But there's so much more of the US we'd like to see - most of it in fact - and I've no idea whether ot not we will. *sigh* But at least we did get there several times and there are plenty who never do, so I'm grateful for that.

Cath, I'm glad you were able to accept this award. I understand what you mean about passing along awards - there are so many blogs that I like and all for different reasons. Just like books! I thought you put into words so nicely what my feelings about awards, too. A comment is a meaningful as an award.

I'm off to check out your new-to-you blogs.

Booklogged: I completely agree with you that leaving a comment on someone's blog is as meaningful as an award. Visiting people's blogs on a regular basis and establishing a good friendship takes time and effort but, in my experience anyway, is well worth that effort.
