Its sequel, The Woman Who Walked into the Sea, was even better but more about family secrets.Cathhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06371069000185280668noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3958492963483272678.post-29396072749018483422017-01-03T22:44:03.047+00:002017-01-03T22:44:03.047+00:00Oooh! I hope your library has The Sea Detective.

Margaret: Mystery in White has been all over blogland and Goodreads so I expect that's why it sounds so familiar. The sexual abuse is not too graphic in The Sea Detective but I found the idea of it, the reality of how it happened, upsetting... or perhaps depressing would be a better way to describe it. Possibly because I have a grand-daughter of a similar age to the girl in the book.

Val: Yes, same here with Mystery in White. Hope your enjoy The Sea Detective when you get to it. I haven't read any Val McDermid and I know I really should. I see the book you're reading is #9 in the Tony Hall and Carol Jordan series. Is that a good series?

Penny: I hope you enjoy both books if you manage to get hold of them.

Peggy: I plan to read The Woman Who Walked into the Sea this year as well. I think the third book has only been out a few months.

Bev: I should probably say that there's not a lot about trains in Mystery in White. The cover is a bit misleading. They get off the train and go wandering in the snow very quickly.
Cathhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06371069000185280668noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3958492963483272678.post-28128663689448118962016-02-01T14:59:55.477+00:002016-02-01T14:59:55.477+00:00Thanks for the great review on Mystery in White. Maybe it was made into a film? Anyway, it's a book I'd like to read. I'm not so sure about The Sea Detective - I think I could cope with the feet in trainers washing up around the coast, but not so sure about the sexual abuse. I'll have look if I see it in the library or bookshop. Happily, I had already gotten the first one - I love train books and also snow and deserted houses. Reminds me of one of Christie's books - can't think of the name right now. The second book sounds wonderful. Scotland and the War and all the other things. Yes, I'll have to investigate and see if any of my libraries has this series. Thanks for the reviews! I know it seems like a lot more. lol

The Sea Detective is set in modern days but also had a lot about 1930s and 40s (WW2) island life in Scotland. If you see it on your travels (thrift shop, library for sale shelf) grab it as I think you might like it.
