...Pat: Yep, that's the one. Loved it as a kid.

Penny: O Jerusalem takes place after the first book in the series, The Beekeeper's Apprentice. You could read that first or you could read all of the books up to and including The Moor. I don't think it really matters... it's a good series whatever you do. Your review has now compelled me to read it, but, from comments I'm wondering if I should read "The Moor" first. Confusing to go back in time like that and I'm easily confused, LOL! That Hound of the Baskervilles b&w movie you're talking about was, I think, my first introduction to Sherlock Holmes. I watched it when I was about 13 or 14 and was thrilled to bits with it. All that running around in bogs and being chased by black hounds. Loved it.

Margaret: You don't see the books in our shops very much, I fancy the series is more well known in the US. When I first started to read them there were none at all in Devon libraries but now they do have them, which is progress. You could easily read O Jerusalem as a standalone as it does. But it's not actually a bad series... intelligently written, which is not always the case as we know. But, you do make it sound as though I'd like this book in particular - the situation in the Middle East is, as you say, tragic - and it goes back centuries. I'll look out for O Jerusalem.BooksPleasehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08721650104596705715noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3958492963483272678.post-40499203537111673732016-08-07T12:12:10.305+01:002016-08-07T12:12:10.305+01:00oh yes, I loved this series too! I used to love Sherlock in the old black and white movies and Hound of the Baskerville's was my favorite and so when I saw "The Moor".. well, it was the first of the whole series that I read! If I remember right there was some good humor in that also!DesLilyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02582481597658080464noreply@blogger.com
