Library Loot

My current read - City of Pearl by Karen Traviss - is going a bit slowly, not because it's a bad book, it's actually rather good, but because I'm taking my time and savouring it. So as it makes me seem quiet (not a natural state for me I can assure you) I thought I'd do a Library Loot post to fill the void.

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Marg from The Adventures of an Intrepid Reader that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries!

Well... I made a sort of new year's bookish resolution to only check only 3 to 5 books out of the library. I did actually keep to that but conveniently forgot I already had 2 books left on the shelf at home. I think I must be a dyed in the wool Lost Cause. Officially hopeless.

Anyway, here are they:

From the bottom up:

The Lost Art of Gratitude - Alexander McCall Smith. Book 5 or 6 of his Isabel Dalhousie series and my idea of a good comfort read.

The Likeness - Tana French. Her sequel to In the Woods which I read ages ago and have been meaning to read the sequel for ages too. Very happy to see this one sitting on the library shelf.

To Dream of the Dead - Phil Rickman. This was one of Susan at You Can Never Have too Many Books favourite crime reads of 2010 and, as we tend to have very similar tastes, I grabbed it when I saw it in the library. (Dontcha just love blaming someone else...)

Winter in Thrush Green - Miss Read. My current bedtime read. 'Tis soothing and delightful, just like Deslily's Afghan that I wrap myself up in. :-)

Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang - Kate Wilhelm. A randon grab, classic sci fi, which I may or may not read for Carl's Sci Fi Experience.

Red Bones - Anne Cleeves. Book 3 of her brilliant Jimmy Perez series.

The Surgeon - Tess Gerritsen. A series recommended to me by all and sundry and my eldest daughter. Been waiting quite a few weeks for my library to get this back in.

And the first book I'll read off this pile when I've finished my current book? Most likely The Likeness by Tana French as I know it will be *really* good.

Looks good, Cath. Kate Wilhelm writes mysteries too. They are set in Oregon. Just saying...but I'm not an enabler. :-)

Hi Cath,

You and I must be 'lost causes' together, because I can't walk past a charity shop without going in to look at the books and I always seem to find something I like.

Lets face it, I just want to read every book that is published!!! That's why my TBR mountain is so big.

At least you are a bit more sensible and you can return your library books so that they are not cluttering up your house.

Love your latest selection, I'll have them all please!

Yvonne

I just read The Likeness and absolutely loved it. I'm now working my way back and will be reading In the Woods next!

If you like The Likeness and you haven't already read it, I would recommend The Secret History by Donna Tartt :)

Claire: I honestly don't think I've read anything by AMcS that I haven't liked. Plus, I have lots more to read and that is quite a 'comfort' in itself. :-)

Mollie: Thank you! I'm sure I will.

Kay: Oh you *had* to say that. 'Oregon' I mean. I will now have to have a look because that's a state I've always wanted to visit. Blame those 'pioneer' type westerns...

Hey Pat! LOL... I did actually wonder if the author might be a relation. Haven't checked but am assuming *not*. We can be hopeless together...

Linda: Thank you. The trouble is, I want to read them all at once.

Yvonne: You and me both as regards charity shops. And I don't feel right unless I come out with some little treasure. And I too want to read everything: it's a disease and 'library addiction' is part of it for me.

Sue: Well, fancy seeing you here! I will ask you which books later. ;-)

Aimee: You have 'such' a treat coming with In the Woods. I couldn't stop thinking about it, both while I was reading it and for weeks after.

I've read The Secret History and would recommend it to anyone too. A really densely plotted, superb read.

You have a treat in store with the Phil Rickman - if you are not hooked by the end I will be very surprised. Ditto Tess Gerritsen and Tana French and I know that you love the Jimmy Perez books as much as I do.
Haven't read Miss Read in years but I used to love them and haven't read the Isabel Dalhousie books at all although i quite like the Scotland Street books.
I hope that you are not planning to do anything but read for the next week or so!

LizF: I'm really looking forward to reading the Phil Rickman, a totally new author to me. We're off to Cardiff for a couple of days next week so I may take that with me. I've literally just started the third Jimmy Perez and am hooked already as it's an archaeology yarn by the look of it.

I read a few Miss Read books when I was much younger and am now finding they make delightful bedtime reads.

LOL... lots on but always time for a little reading.

Bev: hello, welcome to my blog. Yes, I must admit, I do like an awful lot of variety in my reading. There isn't much I won't try. Will visit your blog in a moment.

Marg: Yep... my cup runneth over. :-) Thanks, I will.
