Caerphilly Castle

Rather busy at the moment, what with harvesting fruit and veg from the garden every day, and tomorrow our grand-daughter arrives for a five day visit. I'm reading but not having much time to write about what I'm reading so blogging has to take a back seat for the duration. But it's a warm afternoon so rather than burn up in the garden I thought I'd nip in here and post a few more photos of our recent trip to Cardiff, in Wales. This is Caerphilly castle, built in the 1270s, and situated about 15 miles north of Cardiff.

Weapons of mass-destruction, medieval style...

Hi Cath,

My kind of a day out, although as NT members, we do try to concentrate on their properties through choice.

We have done Caernarfon and Carmarthen castles, but never Caerphilly, looks like you had a great time.

Historic properties and gardens are much more to my liking than sitting on a beach!!

Have a great time with the family, the weather looks set fair for the rest of the week

I love castles too, but I've not visited Caerphilly Castle.

We're in grandparent mode now too - grandson this week and granddaughters next. We're going to Alnwick Castle tomorrow with grandson - a Harry Potter fan - looks like Hagrid and Dumbledore will be there too. No doubt I'll be taking photos - just hope it doesn't rain.

Have good time.

Wow the picture of the dining room really gives one an idea of the scale of the place. Great pictures, it must have been amazing to see.

Yvonne: We tend to go more for NT places too, partly because being members it's free entry of course. What surprised us was how cheap the entry to Caerphilly was... just £4... worth every penny.

I can't imagine a worse purgatory than having to lie in the sun on a beach.

Thank you, yes I gather the weather is going to be dry and sunny all week.

Margaret: Yes, school holiday time generally turns busy for grandparents doesn't it. Your prospective day out at Alnwick tomorrow sounds lovely, especially with the HP connection. A pity it's the other end of the country or I would be there! Enjoy your day.

Sue: It *was* an amazing place. The hall made me think of Merlin immediately and I looked around for Uther and Gaius etc. LOL.

Kelly: One of the machines is a trebuchet and the other is something else that I forget the name of. To the left of those in that covered shed affair was a massive cross-bow that would have lethal too.

Pat: 'Twould be a bit drafty in places but a great place to draw up the drawbridge and keep the world at bay. I think my lack of a head for heights might be a problem though. LOL!

I loved seeing Caerphilly Castle through your lens. What fun and how interesting. Enjoy your time with family. Blogging will wait. Our family comes in from MN in a few weeks and I can't wait to get my baby-fix.

lifeonthecutoff: You're so right, family comes first and anyway I know things will quieten down in the autumn. Enjoy your family visit and baby-fix too. :-)
