Saturday snapshot

Two Saturday snapshots in a row! Goodness, what are things coming to!

This week I was in a mountains and forests kind of a mood after finishing and reviewing Love and War in the Apennines by Eric Newby. The UK is not famous for its mountains and forests, although Scotland has a few. My best ever experience of those two wonderful natural features was this:

Sometimes I have to pinch myself to make myself realise that in September 2005 I was actually in the USA, standing in this spot in the Shenandoah National Park, on the Skyline Drive, looking at this stunning view. I hope I get to go back one day.

I saw that area as a teen (many years ago). The Skyline Drive is wonderful. Glad you got to see it!

We lived in that area in the 90s - when I saw that photo I had a hunch it was from there. It's a wonderful drive, isn't it?

Pat: I'll be there, don't worry... just not sure when.

Mary: Everywhere you look on that drive the scenery is mind-blowing.

Trish: It was wonderful. I can't imagine being able to live there!

Diane: Our visit was so memorable we've never forgotten it.

Kelly: I'm pretty sure we probably will.

Laurel: My pleasure. :-)

What a great picture! The Shenandoah Valley is truly beautiful country. And it's a nice reminder for those of us living here that we often take for granted what we have right here at home.

This is a drive we have never made. Funny we live in FL and drive up north every year- we normally stick to the highway. Someday I'd like to take the scenic route. Thanks for posting these!

That is beautiful and breathtaking. I'm in the Midwestern US and it's very flat here. We don't see views like that!

Beautiful! I've never been there, but have been to the mountains of W.Va and know how awesome it is to see sights like this in person!

That is very pretty! I thought that countryside looked familiar - I haven't been to the park, but I looked it up online and saw that it is very near Charlottesville which I visited several years ago.

Lisa: I think all of us who live in a pretty area take it for granted. We need visitors to help us remember not to. LOL.

Kaye: Oh, the scenic route is well worth taking in this case.

Leslie: I'm so sure that the Midwest is beautiful too, in its own way. :-)

Nise: I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a revisit, I'm pretty sure it will happen.

Vicki: I agree - the mountains of W.Virginia are absolutely stunning too. So much I love about the USA...

Alyce: I have a feeling we went to Charlottesville too. We were all over that entire area like a rash. LOL. I thought Front Royal was a nice little town. We stayed there overnight and even managed to find a secondhand bookshop for me.

Eva: Thank you. I do too.

Paulita: Me too. And Bill Bryson writes about it so wonderfully in his book, A Walk in the Woods.

Pretty picture!

Staci: I agree with you, it is mesmerising. I think we stood there a long time!

Louise: Me too. :-)

Kelly: Thank you. Though I'm only saying thanks for pointing and clicking, the scenery made itself. LOL!

Hi Cath,

Stunning shots, the closest I have got to scenery like that, is Scotland, which I thought quite stunning in its own way.

The best mountains I have seen are when we went to Switzerland, although you don't tend to get the forest areas in quite the same way.

Beautiful! Thanks for stopping by my SS

Yvonne: One of these days I would love to go Scotland. I had Scottish ancestors so I should make the effort really. Switzerland would be nice too. :-)

Jyoti: Thanks. My pleasure.
