A bit AWOL

I've been a little AWOL recently, so apologies if I haven't been around commenting on posts quite as much. My husband went down with another dose of pneumonia about 10 days ago, the previous one being in June 2020. I wanted to keep him out of hospital as Covid cases are on the rise here and there are more people in hospital with it, but it wasn't to be and he went in for 3 days. This time we were able to visit so that made a difference but like a lot of people he's always really miserable in hospital. Anyway, he came home yesterday, is very fragile, but much happier now that he's home in his own bed and with home cooked food. All I need to do now is build his strength back up, not that easy when he's on antibiotics that are almost worse than the illness.

I've been reading, but not reviewing. I will get to it. I've been joining in a little with Jane Austen July which originated in the bookish corner of Youtube, lot of fun stuff on there. So I've read, Miss Austen by Gill Hornby which was utterly delightful and then Mansfield Park by Jane Austen herself. I didn't like it as much as Pride and Prejudice or Emma but it was incredibly interesting, if rather long-winded, and I'm having difficulty getting the characters out of my head, so it certainly must've made an impression!

And now I'm reading this:

It's book 6 in the series and like all the rest it's huge fun and just what I need at the moment. It's also my book 10 for the summer reading challenge which is coming along quite nicely.

I hope you're all well and finding some excellent books to read.

After reading your comment at my blog, I hopped over here to see if you had a new post. My comment below is much like my response at my blog:

I am sorry to hear that Peter did have to go into the hospital, that must have been traumatic for all of you. It is good that you were able to visit, to me that aspect of the pandemic was the one that scared me the most. I am glad to hear that he is back home with you. I hope reading a Lady Hardcastle book does cheer you up, and I agree that is just the right kind of story.

All that reading related to Jane Austen sounds good and I will look up the book by Gill Hornby that you mentioned.

I have subscribed to Bookworm Adventure Girl and watched another of the videos. Lots of fun. Thanks for telling me about her.

So sorry to hear your news, but I am glad that your husband is back home and wish him a speedy recovery. I have never yet read any Jane Austen- but I keep thinking I ought to remedy that someday!

I am so sorry your husband has been so ill and had to be in hospital - good news he is back home though. I hope he'll be feeling better soon. I'm glad you've been able to read and I too loved Gill Hornby's Miss Austen. Take care and best wishes to you both.

So sorry to hear that Peter has been in hospital, but good news that you have him back home safe and sound again, where you can concentrate on his recovery. My SIL has been admitted more times than I care to remember with pneumonia and it really is so debilitating, so Best Wishes and Hugs to you both!

I really must get around to reading that first book in 'The Lady Hardcastle' series, before the whole things gets away from me, especially as book #9 is due out in the autumn! :)

You might notice that I have begun posting to Fiction Books again, however I have turned off the 'comments' section and have decide to use it more as a personal catalogue of the books I have read and reviewed. I shall still be posting to Goodreads, but I do find that a bit 'clunky'! It also makes it easier for me to continue accepting a few Blog Tours along the way.

Stay Safe :)

Tracy: Thanks, yes it was quite traumatic but we've been through it all before so we kind of clicked into routine mode and off we go. As always the paramedics were wonderful and I feel like I have a lot to be grateful for. Oh yes, *so* much better to be able to go in to see him.

The Jane Austen July thing has been huge fun and I will continue it on I think. One of the Youtubers recced some crime novels connected with JA so I'm definitely going to look into those. Carrie Bebris was one of the authors.

I really like Jolene at Bookworm Adventure Girl, she reads some interesting books and seems like a nice person. A crime novel channel I would recommend is Janelle at Too Fond of Books. I really ought to do a post recommending some of the Booktube channels I enjoy.

Jeane: Thank you. He is doing a little bit better today too so we're getting there.

Thinking about your book tastes I wonder if you might enjoy JA's Persuasion. It's a more mature book than the others I think.

Cath said...

Sara: Thank you, he is indeed slightly better today and I'm hoping that will continue.

Cath said...

Lark: Thank you for your good wishes and prayers, they're so much appreciated. And I'm pleased to say he's now starting to improve.

Margaret: Thank you, he's quite a bit better today so I'm 'really' hoping the worst is behind us. *Fingers crossed*

Gill Hornby has a new book out, either out now or soon, I'm not sure. Godmersham Park, which is where one her of brothers lived if memory serves and I think the book might be about the niece, Fanny. I shall be getting it.

Yvonne: I think I said to you on Twitter that he's steadily improving every day now so I'm hoping the worst is behind us. Yes, I've heard that people get it over and over and this is Peter's second dose, so I suppose we have more to look forward to. It's not a great prospect, I can only hope that as his last lot was 2 years ago it won't be too often but I could be living in cloud cuckoo land.

The Lady Hardcastle books are easy reads so it wouldn't take you too long to read several. And they're fun so it doesn't feel like a slog.

No, I hadn't noticed that you had posted on your blog again so thanks for the heads up. Nice to see you there. :-)

You stay safe too. xx

Cath, I've been thinking about you and Peter and hoping he was doing OK. Sorry that he had to be hospitalized, but also glad that he's been released to your tender care and good food. Hope his recovery continues well and please take care of yourself too. Big hugs!!

Oh Cath so sorry about your husband's second bout with pneumonia and that he had to be hospitalized. I do hope he will recover quicker at home. Glad you are still reading to briefly take your mind off things.

It hasn't been a great week for us either of us as well but, hopefully next week will be better - wishing you and Peter well.

Cath said...

Kay: Thank you, it's so kind of you to be thinking about us. He is doing much better today and I think he's turned the corner, but it's been an unpleasant couple of weeks. Thank you for the hugs, much appreciated!

Cath said...

Margot: Thank you, it's been a difficult couple of weeks but he's making good progress now I'm pleased to say.

Cath said...

Diane: Thank you. I definitely think being at home has helped him and today his progress is even more pronounced.

Really sorry to hear you've had a bad week too. Sending good vibes and best wishes. This 'old-age' business is not exactly a barrel of laughs.

So sorry to hear your husband has been ill. Being in the hospital really is the worst, so I'm glad he's back home and resting better. I'm not sure how you're expected to get any sleep in a busy hospital with nurses constantly coming in the room to poke and prod you! Hopefully, he's made a full recovery by now.

Cath said...

Susan: Thank you. Yes, it is awful being in hospital and he particularly hates it. As you say, poked and prodded and not able to sleep or eat. Horrible. He's not fully recovered yet but getting there, ups and downs but heading in the right direction.
