Once Upon a Time X

It's that time of year again. Spring has sprung and Carl's Once Upon a Time challenge is with us once again.

(Art by Melissa Nucera)

“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.” -- J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

The Once Upon a Time X Challenge has a few rules:

Rule #1: Have fun.

Rule #2: HAVE FUN.

Rule #3: Don’t keep the fun to yourself, share it with us, please!

Rule #4: Do not be put off by the word “challenge”.

There are all kinds of options so please check out Carl's sign-up post.

I'll be doing:

Which is to: Read at least 5 books that fit somewhere within the Once Upon a Time categories. They might all be fantasy, or folklore, or fairy tales, or mythology… or your five books might be a combination from the four genres.

I have a few books I want to read and have created a Goodreads shelf here. I own seven of them and may or may not buy the other two. Hopefully I can get a few of them read as they've been on my TBR pile for years!

Happy reading and thanks to Carl once again for hosting.

Pat... yup gotta get that post done. Chop, chop! ;-) I like the sound of Uprooted but will maybe buy it later in the challenge. I'll be virtuous and read some of my own books first. lol Yeah right...

I love the rules of this challenge and I'll be interested to follow the books you read.

It amazes me that I've never read Alice in Wonderland, even, and I'm thinking of adding it to my Classics Club list. If nothing else, it's culturally important, part of our literary heritage, etc. Must do.

Good luck with the challenge - I've read The Buried Giant and hope you like it as much as I did. I'm going to be rather low key for this challenge and am thinking of just dipping into my copy of Grimms' Fairy Tales before 21 June. But if other books from my own shelves jump up and say read me I could read more - I don't like to plan too much in advance as I often don't stick to my plans.

I am not familiar with any of those authors, so any you read and review will be interesting.

Judith: One of the abiding memories of my childhood is the illustrated copy of Alice in Wonderland I owned. Sadly, when I thought I was 'too old' for it I passed it on. Now of course I can't believe I did that.

Margaret: I was pleased to get The Buried Giant as a Christmas gift and have been saving it for OUaT.

I know what you mean about 'low key'. Sadly I'm not much in the mood for fantasy at the moment but luckily the challenge is for three months so I ought to be able to manage a few books at least. Probably not my usual 7 to 9 though.

Tracy: I hope so. :-)

Kelly: LOL! I know... so many books so little time. *Sigh*
