What's in a Name challenge

First of all I want to wish anyone in the USA who happens to be reading this, a very Happy Thanksgiving today. Hope you all enjoy your turkeys and trimmings and your day.

Well, I did say to myself that I would not do any challenges next year apart from the usual Once Upon a Time and R.I.P. hosted by Carl. Huh! Famous last words! I couldn't resist clicking on a link to next year's What's in a Name challenge, hosted by Beth Fish Reads, just to see what the categories were... and now I seem to have decided to do it. Hopeless.

Anyway, here are the details:

Between January 1 and December 31, 2013, read one book in each of the following categories:

1. A book with up or down (or equivalent) in the title. Read: High Rising - Angela Thirkell

2. A book with something you'd find in your kitchen in the title: Loose Lips Sink Ships, The Knife of Never Letting Go, Breadcrumbs

3. A book with a party or celebration in the title: A Feast for Crows, A Wedding in Haiti, Cocktail Hour under the Tree of Forgetfulness

4. A book with fire (or eqivalent) in the title: Burning for Revenge, Fireworks over Toccoa, Catching Fire

5. A book with an emotion in the title: Baltimore Blues, Say You're Sorry, Dreams of Joy

6. A book with lost or found (or equivalent) in the title: The Book of Lost Fragrances, The World We Found, A Discovery of Witches

• Books may be any form (audio, print, e-book).

• Books may overlap other challenges.

• Books may not overlap categories; you need a different book for each category.

• Creativity for matching the categories is not only allowed but encouraged.

• You do not have to make a list of books before hand.

• You do not have to read through the categories in any particular order.

I had a look through my tbr pile and came up with a list, which I am going to put here *but* I'm not holding myself to this list of books. This is just a few ideas for my own benefit as to what I *could* read.

1. Book read: High Rising by Angela Thirkell

2. Book read: The Cold Dish - Craig Johnson

3. Wedding Season - Katie Fforde
Highland Fling - Katie Fforde

4. Firestorm - Nevada Barr
Fire and Ice - Dana Stabenow

5. The Happy Foreigner - Enid Bagnold
Recipe for Love - Katie Fforde

6. Little Boy Lost - Marghanita Laski
A Discovery of Witches - Deborah Harkness

Any other suggestions anyone? All welcome.

LOL! I know!!! Hopeless case. 'Greany'? Well, I have 'Green' in my family history. Pretty close, eh?

Something else we have in common... tonight P and I have no water supply. Hoping it'll be back on when we get up tomorrow morning.

LOL to the "hopeless" and signing on already!!! I like that you have two possible books selected for each category, too!!!

I haven't decided if I am going to join a challenge next year, other than Carl's regular ones. Which I believe I am already gathering books for! Hopeless is me, too :-)

I hope you enjoy the challenge, Cath, and I will think about it, as it does look manageable. I do like the Katie Ffordes on your list too, lol.

I was just thinking I wouldn't join any challenges next year - and then I read your post! So what did I do? What else could I do but look through my list of unread books and lo and behold there are plenty to fill these categories. I'll just HAVE to do this challenge!!!

Susan: For some categories I could easily have chosen three or four. LOL

Yep... I'm actually already eyeing up books for Carl's sci fi experience.

For me the challenge is manageable because it's just 6 books over a year and they're probably books I planned to read anyway.

Margaret: I was thinking the same thing. I think it's the fun of choosing the books to match the categories that does it. If you decide to do it I look forward to your post.

Hi Cath,

I hope that you haven't been too affected by the recent storms. Somerset has been particularly badly hit in places, but fortunately we seem to have escaped most of it here in Frome.

I was just checking out another new to me blog and came across the bloggers post indicating that she would be taking part in this particular challenge, although she didn't give a list of her anticipated books to fit the categories.

I did have a quick peek at my bookshelves and I definitely have enough material just sitting there ... BUT NO! I am not going to succumb this year ... definitely no challenges for me, however I shall be watching your posts with great interest, as I have written down the categories ... just for my own reference of course!!

I hope that running water supplies have now been resumed!

If I were going to do a challenge, which I just don't have time to do justice to at this point, this would be fun. Good luck.

That was so thoughtful of you to wish all of us here in the States a happy Thanksgiving. Thank you.

Yvonne: So glad to hear your weren't affected by the floods. We weren't too much either apart from not being able to get to Killerton on Sunday for their annual food fayre. We got within half a mile of the place and came across a torrent of water gushing out of the hedge and onto the road. It was impassable so we came home again.

I remember you and I both did this challenge a couple of years ago. My problem is that for a couple of the categories I have several books I really want to read, 'up or down' for instance. It's going to be a tough choice.

Water back to normal now thanks. Have a nice weekend!

Penny: Thank you. I've done this one several times before and it's always fun, and takes a few books off the tbr pile.

My pleasure. I have many wonderful American (and Canadian) friends so I give thanks for them on the various Thanksgiving days.
