Sci-Fi Experience wrap-up

Sadly, Carl's Science-Fiction Experience has once again come to an end. The two months absolutely whizzed by, probably because I have enjoyed it so much... time flies when you're having fun.

Books read:

1. Helliconia Spring - Brian W. Aldiss

2. The Warrior's Apprentice - Lois McMaster Bujold

3. Dawn - Octavia Butler

4. Consider Phlebas - Iain M. Banks

5. Shards of Honour - Lois McMaster Bujold

So, five books read in all. A mixed bag, one very classic read in Helliconia Spring, a new space opera series started in the two Miles Vorkosigan books, a book by Octavia Butler at long last and a complicated, very interesting read in Consider Phlebas by Iain M. Banks. I would call that a successful Sci-fi Experience this time around and I'm very pleased with the way it went. The other thing that pleases me is that all five books were owned by me, so that's five books off the tbr mountain!

Hard to choose a favourite as they were all rather good. But the book that edges ever so slightly ahead is Helliconia Spring as it was just so darn good. I meant to read its sequel, Helliconia Summer, for the Experience too but have not managed it. No matter, I plan to carry on reading science-fiction this year and am hoping to get to that book later this month.

Many thanks to Carl for once again hosting his Science-Fiction Experience, it really is very much appreciated.

Well done! I enjoyed this 'Experience' too and your post has reminded me to do a wrap-up post too. I'm going to carry on reading sci-fi this year - in fact I'm in the middle of one right now.

Next time I'm in the library I'll check Aldiss's books.

I always have the best intentions with this experience and then never really read anything!

You had a great reading experience, Cath. I only read two books because I had other commitments in December, but I love both of the books I read.

Margaret: I'm going to do that too as I'm far being finished with sci-fi and have loads of books I still want to read.

Kelly: I think this is my best year with it. Normally I have good intentions, read a couple and it ends there.

Tracy: The important thing is that you loved the two books you did read.

You did so well with this sci-fi experience, Cath! I didn't get any books read for it, for the first time in three years. I just couldn't do science fiction right now, though I tried a couple. I am in a non-fiction biography mood right now.

I have two of the Bujold/Miles books too, which I do want to get to. Your reviews (and Carl's when he reviews these) make them sound so much fun!

Susan: When you're not in the mood for a genre, you're not in the mood and there not much you can do. It happens to me all the time. I seem to be concentrating on crime and non-fiction with the odd sci-fi mixed in at the moment. I'll have to get into a fantasy mood soon. :-) As long as you're loving what you're reading that's what counts. And I know you're loving your mountaineering books. lol

Yes, the Bujold books are not bad at all. So many good sci-fi series around that it hard to choose which to try.
