A fun meme

I thought I'd snag this quick and fun meme from Nan at Letters from a Hill Farm. These are the questions to answer:

1. What am I reading at the moment?
2. What am I listening to at the moment?
3. What am I watching at the moment?

1. For some reason I've started reading several books at once where once I used to be a strict 'one at a time' person. So, downstairs in the sitting room I'm reading Kim by Rudyard Kipling, though I haven't got very far with it yet. In the bedroom I have a book of travel writing by Anthony Trollope which I'm really enjoying. And here in my study I have a book of short stories by Kipling and Dreams Underfoot, an anthology by Charles De Lint. I'm midway through the second story of the De Lint and having to stop myself picking it up at every opportunity as it is just gorgeous.

2. A cd called American Tune by Eva Cassidy. My favourite songs on it are, The Water is Wide, Dark Eyed Molly and You Take my Breath Away. Her voice is so beautiful - I can't believe she's no longer with us.

3. Tonight we watched Masterchef on BBC2. This is a cookery show where people compete for the title of masterchef. I'm in awe of anyone who would put themselves to the test like this. After that there was nothing that interested us so we watched A Scandal in Bohemia, a Sherlock Holmes mystery from my new boxed set.

Do you find that you are reading more since blogging? I was always a one-book-at-a-time reader but now I am tempted by what everyone is recommending and I have lots on the go at once. Even so, I have no hope of keeping up with those who write regular reviews. My New Year resolution is not to try to keep up. I wonder how long it will last?

Hi Monix! I think book blogs ought to come with a health warning because I know I'm buying more because of them. Actually reading more, I'm not sure. I did actually read a few more books last year than the year before but not substantially so. So the honest answer is that blogging makes me 'buy' more books but not 'read' more. The thing is, I'm quite a slow reader so getting through the hundreds of books some folk do is beyond me. Plus, I've decided that this year I'm not going to worry about these numbers anyway. I'm going to enjoy what I read and perhaps challenge myself with a few longer books such as Dickens and that Mr. Strange and Dr. Norrell (or is the other way round?) book. And if I take a month to read them, well so be it. And I think that might be at the root of why I've suddenly started reading more than one at a time. Before, I wouldn't stop to read the odd short story because it wasn't adding to my 'annual number'. Ridiculous, and I was determined to change that this year. Good luck with your New Year's resolution too!

Hi Cath.. wow, that's something I can't do.. read more than one at a time! Especially if the book I am reading has captivated me, all I want to do is read "what next?" in it and I know my head wouldn't be on anything different. So I would do injustice to the second book. Once I begin the Holmes book though I will read 2..but not really as I will complete each story Doyle writes then read a complete book before going back for another of Doyles stories. So I will treat it as if each story is a complete novel (which they are if I bought them seperatly)

More power to ya Cath! LOL I know many who do this, I guess I just want (need?) to give each book my all .. whatever that is! haha

Hi Pat. It's weird the way I've suddenly started to read more than one book at once. What I would say though is that I only read one novel at a time. The other books are always short stories, or travel diaries. What I call 'bitty' books that you can pick up and put down. I don't think I could keep two long novels in my head at once. Not enough room up there. LOL!
